In The Name Of The Lord

It's now just after 9 at night on a Sunday and I'm already dreading Monday morning and heading back to work.  It would be wonderful to go to bed and sleep well into tomorrow morning and to have another day off.   That's just not how life works, but my fleshly side says who made that rule?  The problem with that thinking is two fold.  As Paul says in his book to the Thessalonians;

Thessalonians 3:10. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.

Well I rather enjoy eating (which explains why I'm currently on a diet).  Being able to pay my bills while rating behind eating, is none the less important as well.   Bottom line, sleeping in till mid morning tomorrow is a no go.   I understand I have to work.

But that attitude isn't all Paul's writings tries to teach us about the wishes of the Lord for our lives.  Paul tries to teach us in the the 3rd book of Colossians how to approach our lives while  here on earth before we are called home to Heaven.  He teaches us how we are to Love one another, treat one another with kindness, compassion, patience, and forgiveness.  To strive to live your life like Jesus is waiting at home everyday to ask how your day went.  Do you want to tell him about how you lost your temper at work and yelled at coworker for no real apparent reason?  Do you want to tell him about how you goofed off the last hour at work on your phone and wasn't nearly as productive as you are capable of?  Do want to tell Him how bad you lost your temper at the driver that cut you off, and what exactly you called that driver at the next red light?

Paul, at the behest of the Holy Spirit, wants us to live every single day, thru every thing we do, as if on to the  Lord.  To go to work like Jesus will be our supervisor, like He is ultimately our end customer.  To treat the person who just treated us horribly with the forgiveness God has shown us, when we rarely if ever deserved said forgiveness.   Not repaying ill treatment in kind.  Striving every day to live a life like you'll be face to face with the Lord sooner rather than later.  Ultimately that's exactly what will happen, and only God knows exactly when that moment will be.   The Golden Rule will never be obsolete.

Here's a good sermon from Pastor Skip Heitzig on this topic;
